I have been getting phone calls from a bunch of phone numbers. I’ve called them back and sometimes the phone just rings until I hang up, sometimes it’s a person or business that’s never called me so I know that the caller spoofed the phone number, and other times it’s some stupid voice message greeting.
If I did report this then the police told me that voip calls are very hard to trace and it might be pointless. I don’t know if the person is using firertc, but if they are, then what happens when I give the police the phone numbers? The office I spoke to told me they use a database to search for the phone number and then if it’s a voip call then they may have to get my cell phone company records. I don’t care about that, but then they said that they may not be able to find out what VOIP provider or I guess SIP service is being used for the calls. Is that right? I’m wondering if they are telling me the right thing? Then if they find out it was FireRTC for example, they would send a legal request and get back the persons IP address that called my phone, and is that all they need to then find out and prove who’s calling me? They told me that just the IP address might not be enough and I’m wondering why that’s true when it seems like it would be?
Thanks
